BUNIONS

At Southern Podiatry Clinic, we help people suffering from bunions. A bunion is an abnormal bony enlargement that develops on the inside of the foot near the base of the big toe. As the bunion worsens the big toe begins to lean towards, and crowd, the other toes.

It is essential to wear comfortable shoes of the right size that provide adequate support for your feet. Properly fitted shoes help in maintaining the natural alignment of the feet and prevent the development of bony protrusions such as bunions, which can exacerbate the pain and discomfort over time.

Bunions are primarily a hereditary condition and can affect anyone. As we walk more and more the symptoms become worse. As the bunion deformity increases in severity it can cause many other associated foot problems, such as hammertoes, arch pain, and painful calluses on the bottom of the foot.

Should I have my bunion treated?

Continued pressure from shoes can result in the development of a bursa over the bunion.  This will cause the area to become red, swollen, and painful. In these instances, an injection of cortisone may be helpful.

Bunions can cause arthritis, which can cause stiffness, swelling, and pain in the affected joints. Other conditions that may result from bunions include cartilage damage and bursitis. This means that early treatment at Southern Podiatry Clinic is critical to preventing complications and minimizing pain and discomfort.

TAKING ACTION NOW MEANS TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR BUNION PAIN.
